Yes, I buy lot's of Fruits and Vegetables too!

I just received this email. All I could do was laugh.

Dear Michelle (Hello, I'm only one L)

Your deals are fantastic but not realistic for most families. I never see any fresh fruit or vegetables in your purchases. Does your family eat any meat that is not in a frozen meal?

Sincerely, Sara

I should start off by saying that I cook dinner every night. My husband expects meat at every dinner. Ten years ago I made Eggplant parmesan and I still have to hear the story of how I tried to kill him with a vegetarian dinner.   Second I shop Winco every week for our Fruits and Vegetables. I find that they have the best prices on produce.  I sometimes purchase my meat there as well, they do an excellent Carne Asada that my family loves for "Taco Night".  I haven't posted my Winco purchases in quite a while because sometimes I just want to put away my groceries without taking a picture. I can tell you that this week I spent $22.49 on just produce.  What I post about are all the extra fillers that inflate a normal persons grocery bill.  I never have to worry about running to the store because we are out of mayo, ketchup, mustard, pickles, snacks and much much more.  I love this way of shopping! Not only do I save my family tons of money I am teaching my children to be frugal. Couponing is not for everyone, It's actually a part time job. (Well if your as addicted as I am) So no I don't fee my children TV dinners and Fruit snacks for dinner but if they want a snack they know where the pantry is and it's always full. :-)

Good for you Michele for posting this email. I never worried about you! Some people think they want to change their grocery spending habits, but when it comes right down to "doing the homework" they don't follow through and then turn their attention to gripe at someone else. Its sounds like "Sara" is not actually concerned for your family's nutrition as much as she wants to confront you. So, to the "Sara" out there--try posting pictures of everything you buy for a month and then you can have an opinion.

How is that for a pregnant lady's opinion when she is overly tired?!

Keep up the good work Michele! :)

Thanks Jane, All I could do was laugh. I thought it was funny but to her point I don't post everything. I hope your doing well. I miss your posts already. I also wish you luck with your 3rd child. Adding my youngest just about sent me to the crazy house. I don't know how some women do it.

Well said Michele. I agree that couponing is a part time job and I dont know how all you mommy bloggers do it (you are amazing!). I think sometimes people take posts a little too literal. Couponers dont generally shop for whats for dinner tonight, it's about the long haul.

Michele, I too am a blogger, here in Spokane. I just started blogging at the beginning of this year. I have been couponing since about August/September. I too wanted to point out that yes it is very time consuming in addition to working a full-time job and being a mother of three and a wife too. BUT IS SO WELL WORTH IT!! I definitely agree with your response. I would like to point out that my family and I are Weight Watchers, so we do tend to eat more fruits, veggies, and probably more chicken than anyone else on the planet. Yes my whole family eats a healthy lifestyle. So, yes, you can DO this, eat a healthy lifestyle, and lose weight too! I have lost 135 pounds so far, so you can't tell me this is not realistic. Right? Yes, my kids eat the same as we do. They also do have snacks available to them too. We tend to get alot of our fruits and veggies at Costco though, AND I hardly ever pay full price for meat now. I love their produce. They have big, huge bags of brocolli for $4+ that we love to buy. You just have to pick and choose which deal you would like in on. Anyway, thanks for all your hard work and I love your blog!

speaking of meat...what is your opinion? We have been buying part of a cow from a local farmer and it seems to save us a LOT over the year. More up front, but it's very handy and seem to be healthier. In the end, I know we save money since it's about $3/lb. but gives us a variety of cuts--ground beef to T-bones.
